| Biography
At the Royal Academy of Music in London, he completed his studies under Richard Taylor and Lisa Beznosiuk, with whom he also studied the Baroque and Classical flute. Russell has performed for many of the world's leading exponents of the flute including Sir James Galway, Geoffrey Gilbert, Paula Robison, and William Bennett. Russell has combined a busy freelance orchestral career throughout the United Kingdom, performing with many of the leading UK symphony orchestras under the direction of such conductors and artists as Libor Pesek, Owain Arwel Hughes, Melvyn Tan and Vernon Handley. He enjoys a very successful and versatile career performing as a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician for various worldwide musical and cultural associations. Russell has released two critically acclaimed CDs, including world premiere recordings of works for flute and harp. In 2004 Russell founded "La Flûte Harmonique", a flute choir, to encourage and offer flautists over the age of 21 the opportunity to gain experience in ensemble playing. Now well-established "La Flûte Harmonique" has proved to be most successful with a varied and diverse membership from throughout the North West and surrounding areas of the United Kingdom "La Flûte Harmonique" now embraces three flute choirs. In 2009 the Auxiliary Flute Choir was formed in order to provide less experienced adult flautists with the opportunity to also enjoy the benefits of playing in an Ensemble. In addition a Junior Flute Choir was launched in November 2009. Along with Concerto performances and solo Recitals, Russell has been actively involved in music education since 1984. Highly regarded and a sought after teacher, Russell has been directing a private teaching practice from his Flute Studio based in Cheshire since 1997. Russell is keen to encourage students in their individual playing and performance capabilities. His Master Classes and twice yearly Residential Workshops cater for all abilities and musical aspirations; the overall aim being for students to improve and increase their technical and musical knowledge, confidence and enjoyment of flute playing, in a non competitive, relaxed and informal setting.
