Lessons My teaching strategy - having taught students of all ages for the past 25 years - is specifically tailored to each individual's capability, so allowing the student to progress at an appropriate pace. This provides for everyone's unique qualities and characteristics whether adult or child, beginner or advanced and so encompasses a diverse range of abilities.
I utilize and encourage critical thinking and problem solving. Lessons are discussed jointly with each individual, taking into consideration their personal and long-term aims and objectives. This leads to maximum levels of performance within a positive, relaxed and purposeful learning environment. Students are encouraged to predict what will happen next, how they can facilitate further progress and also to recognise their individual strengths and weaknesses, so enabling these to be used in a positive and constructive way.
My profound belief is that every student is able to progress no matter what their level of ability entirely at their own pace, either within or without the structure of grade level achievement, depending on their individual requirements and wishes. The overall aim is for students to increase their musical knowledge and enjoyment of music whilst learning important cognitive skills, such as imagination and lateral thinking, so resulting in hopefully a life long enjoyment and interest in playing the flute.
